Break from the Cold

Finally, a break from the cold! It's been downright chilly here in southwest Kentucky for the last several days... or weeks... I don't know anymore. However, today was absolutely beautiful with temperatures in the 60's and full sun. We got right to my favorite place in Bowling Green, Chuck Crume Nature Park

While on our walk, the sun was in just the right position for us to play with shadows. Obviously, one of the children was really into this.

Gingerbread Village

This afternoon, Porter and Stella worked on building a gingerbread village. The whole process went better than I had expected with only one of five houses breaking (providing a yummy snack for hard-working kids). They even collaborated well together too... thank you, Jesus!

Check out their finished work:

Downtown Delight

This evening, we enjoyed a wonderful stroll through Bowling Green's downtown Christmas light display at Fountain Square Park while drinking coffee from Spencer's and eating cookies from Little Fox Bakery. What a delight!

Ornaments for Cardinals

Cardinals have been visiting our backyard lately, so we thought we would make them some peanut butter birdseed ornaments. I think they came out pretty well.

Christmas Lights Are Up

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the Stephen house! Brian has been working hard in getting Christmas lights up in the front and back yards.

I can't seem to get a decent photo of our lights at night. This is the best I have been able to do (which is not saying much, clearly):

The Joys of Homeschool

This just might be the life. Here's Stella sitting comfortably in a giant, bean bag chair while she reads Epic! books on her iPad and has her dog closeby to keep her company.

Bored in the Car

This is what happens when Daddy runs into Sam's Club and leaves us in the car for 15 minutes:

Weekly Walks

I just love our weekly walks at Chuck Crume Nature Park.

Cotton Candy Lane

Oh, how I love Chuck Crume Nature Park in Bowling Green. The leaves are the most beautiful pinkish-red right now.

Stella calls this stretch of the trail, "Cotton Candy Lane." It's even more beautiful in person.

Mesker Park Zoo

Today, we took a quick trip to Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, Indiana. It is a lovely zoo, and it is less than 2 hours away from Bowling Green. We will definitely visit again.

Bug's Hugs

We love to give our Bugs (Stella's nickname) lots of hugs!

This photo took at least 30 tries...

Here is just a sampling of the many rejects...

Oh, these kids...

Dugas Community Park

What a beautiful day to take a hike through Dugas Community Park in Scottsville, Kentucky.

Fruits of Our Labor

Here are the pumpkins we grew this year in our little backyard pumpkin patch. It's not quite the haul we hoped for (many of our vines did not make it through the season), but we're still tickled with the ones we got.

Cuddled Up and Cozy

Here's Blu living her best life, all cuddled up and cozy on our hotel bed in Chattanooga.

With this being Fall Break, we decided to take a quick trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee. What a wonderful city! We absolutely loved walking through the Bluff View Art District as well as driving up Lookout Mountain and seeing the Chattanooga skyline from Point Park.

It was a wonderful trip!

Chattanooga Skyline

What a gorgeous view of the Chattanooga skyline. Even the kids were impressed!

Eyes, Nose & Mouth Mask

My car (15 years old and still kicking) got looked at today. Obviously, it took a little longer than expected. Here are the kids asleep at the dealership!

Kudos to them both for keeping their noses and mouths covered (which many adults seem to have not mastered). I also love that Stella used her mask to cover her eyes from the sun. Ingenuity indeed!

Beautiful Day

What a beautiful day to be in downtown Bowling Green!

These Kids Aren't Half Bad

I came into the kitchen this afternoon to find this beautiful display:

I Love You, Mum

Our mums are starting to open, and I just love their color!

September 20, 2020

Dugas Community Park

The kids just love the playground at Dugas Community Park, and thankfully, no one is ever there when we go. Social distancing can be challenging with kids. This park is such a blessing!

Bite to Eat at Boyce

We were able to grab a bite to eat from one of our local favorites, Boyce General Store. They have a great outdoor space available that allows for plenty of social distancing.

I Find You Ribbeting

We had the cutest, little visitor on our elephant ear plant today.

Sunday Stroll

We just love our Sunday strolls through Chuck Crume Nature Park. The kids enjoy finding walking sticks on the trail and then hiding them for when they return. Truth be known, they have never once found a stick they have left behind, but that doesn't stop them from doing it... every single time.

Ruby Branch Farms

This is our second year in a row buying mums from Ruby Branch Farms in Franklin, Kentucky. Their flowers are just gorgeous!

First Set of Hoops

Stella is officially a second grader! She started virtual academy today, and to celebrate, we thought she needed big girl earrings! Here is her first set of small hoops:

Brian's Peppers, Part II

We officially have more peppers than we know what to do with! Stella did all the cutting for today's haul:

Second-Grader Stella

Oh, my precious, baby girl! Stella will officially be a second grader on Monday. I don't know if my heart can take it!

Virtual Schoolroom

Our schoolroom for virtual learning is almost done! This was originally our dining room, but truth be known, we only ate in here three times since we moved in. The first day of Virtual Academy through our local public school, Plano Elementary, will start on Monday, August 24th. Here's hoping we're ready!

Brian's Peppers

Brian's pepper plants are really starting to take off! This was today's haul:

Library Day

Library Day has come and gone, and praise the Lord... it was a success! Although it looked like we would have rain, no drops fell until after the event was officially over. We also had many families in the neighborhood stop by, and children of all ages were able to take home several books to enjoy.

Our Library Day caught the attention of the Little Free Library community, and a blog post was made about it... which is such an incredible honor! Check out that post HERE. Also, it made the Little Free Library's August 2020 Newsletter! You can check out that issue right HERE.

Getting Ready for Library Day

We're getting ready for Library Day, an event that will take place this Sunday, August 9th, in our little neighborhood of Plano Estates. At this event, there will be lots of books available for all ages, especially school-age children.

We're hoping this event will be a fun way to welcome our neighborhood kids back to school. Even though there are many uncertainties right now, we want our community of children to stay excited about reading and learning. Children will be able to pick out several books to keep and enjoy. We're so excited for this event and hope every family in the neighborhood can attend!

Such a Blessing

Brian has a work friend who went on vacation and let us use his pool while he was away. How nice is that?!? Stella went swimming on 3 different days. She was beyond thrilled! It was such a blessing... especially on these 90 degree days!

Porter is currently visiting with his grandparents up in Ohio. I don't think he's too jealous of Stella's swimming pool adventures. He gets to swim in Grandma and Grandpa's lake whenever he wants!
