Taking It All In

This is our last day in South Carolina, and even though there have been many high points through the week, today's adventures certainly topped them all. Here's hoping to visit again soon!

Daddy, Porter & Stella in the Distance

Finding Sea Shells at Morris Island

Morris Island was amazing! The seashells you can find here are just incredible. We all found a few keepers worthy of taking home.

Morris Island Lighthouse

The first Morris Island Lighthouse was built at the southern entrance of Charleston in 1767. However, due to the fierce battles of the Civil War, it was destroyed. The second lighthouse, which you can see in the pictures below, was built in 1876.

Although the beacon has long since been extinguished, the Morris Island Lighthouse is still quite a sight to behold.

Boat Ride out to Morris Island

After enjoying our time at Folly Beach, we chartered a boat ride out to Morris Island. It was a blast, and we got to see several dolphins along the way.

Check out the video below for a sweet moment of Stella loving on her brother:

Folly Beach

I could get used to life at Folly Beach! So could the kids...

Playing at Folly Beach

Also, we found several great shells, tons of hermit crabs, and 2 shark teeth while we were there. It's a fantastic beach!

Carriage Ride through Charleston

For our first trip to Charleston, we thought it would be fun to take a carriage ride through the city. Our horse was wonderful, but our tour guide... not so much. At least the kids had a good time, and we got to see some beautiful sites.

The video below is of us saying hello to our lovely carriage driver:

Taking Photos at Isle of Palms

This morning, we dressed the kids up and took them to the beautiful beach on Isle of Palms. Our goal was to get a few half-decent photos of these little stinkers for our annual Christmas card.

Little Weirdos

Praise the Lord! We got more than a few good ones!

One Handsome Boy

I got several pictures of the kids holding hands. I just love that!

Holding Hands at the Beach

I saved the best pictures for the Christmas card, but I think these all came out pretty well too.

Love These Kids

Oh, this girl! It's hard to tell from the photos below, but she was absolutely covered in sand by the time we left the beach, including her face and hair!

Swinging Around

While at Deep Water Vineyard, the kids found an adorable horse swing to try out.

Check out the video below of Stella having a fantastic time on the swing:

Deep Water Vineyard

After enjoying the Charleston Tea Plantation, we headed over to Deep Water Vineyard which is also located on Wadmalaw Island.

Porter & Daddy at Deep Water Vineyard

This place was great! Brian and I enjoyed tasting all of their muscadine wines, while the kids got to say hello to their friendly farm animals.

Charleston Tea Plantation

After visiting Angel Oak Tree, we then headed to the Charleston Tea Plantation located on Wadmalaw Island. We took a trolley tour of the estate, and it was wonderful!

Porter & Stella on the Man O' War Trolley

We thought it was hilarious that our trolley was named Man O' War. If you've spent any time in Lexington, Kentucky, you know the name of Man O' War, arguably the greatest thoroughbred race horse of all time. Turns out, the Charleston Tea Plantation actually purchased the trolley from Keeneland, which is Lexington's famous race track.

Porter & Stella on the Trolley

On the trolley tour, we got a chance to make a stop at the greenhouse and see how new tea plants are grown. Below, you can also see the kids acting like little weirdos... which is pretty common for them to do when I have the camera out!

Angel Oak Tree

This morning, we had the opportunity to visit Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island.

This amazing tree is in excess of 500 years old! It really was awe-inspiring.

Catching a Ride Back

While at Isle of Palms, we walked, and walked, and walked some more! On the way back, Stella got tired. Good thing Daddy's always there to help her out.

Sweet & Rascally

Oh, this boy! He is as sweet and rascally as he looks!

And those eyelashes... I just can't get enough of them!

Isle of Palms Beach

Before heading out for today's adventures, we thought we'd take a stroll along the beach of Isle of Palms. It was glorious!

While there, Stella put her weird side on full display. Oh my goodness, this girl is too much!

Fort Sumter National Monument

After touring Patriots Point, we then boarded a paddleboat headed for Fort Sumter .

Ft. Sumter National Monument

I can't say we were all that impressed with Ft. Sumter (mainly because we were pretty tired and hungry at this point), but I'm glad we were able to add it to our travel log.

Here's a random photo that I like (for no distinguishable reason) taken while at Ft. Sumter:

USS Clamagore Submarine

Our last stop at Patriots Point was to visit the USS Clamagore Submarine (SS-343). In 1945, this sub began its 30 years of service during the Cold War.

Boarding the USS Clamagore Submarine

The spaces were pretty tight, but it was fun to go through.

USS Laffey Destroyer

After checking out the aircraft carrier, we then boarded the USS Laffey Destroyer (DD-742), the most decorated World War II era US Destroyer still in existence.

Of course, the kids loved looking all around the inside of the ship.

Here's Porter giving me a wave from the top of the destroyer, aptly nicknamed "The Ship That Would Not Die."

USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier

We had a wonderful time exploring the USS Yorktown Air Craft Carrier at Patriot's Point. There was so much to see! There was also so much walking, and so many tiny staircases... the kids (and Mommy) were so totally over it by the end!

Captain Porter

Here's Porter in the captain's chair on the USS Yorktown:

I liked both of these pictures so much, I couldn't pick between the two. So you get blessed with a double dose of Captain Porter. You're welcome!

Sweet & Sassy Stella

Oh, this little stinker! She is so sweet and sassy.

Patriots Point

Today we are touring Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. We're all pretty excited to see an aircraft carrier and a submarine up close!

Porter at Patriots Point

Of course, pretending to shoot cannons at things is pretty fun too!

Beach Baby Stella

This girl truly loves the beach with all her heart!

Stella at Sullivan's Island

Sullivan's Island

Let our beach vacation begin! Last night, we arrived at our hotel in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. As soon as the sun was up, we were headed to Sullivan's Island to visit our dear old friend, the ocean! Here's a totally awkward photo of the family posing in front of Sullivan's Island Lighthouse:

Sullivan Island's Lighthouse

Although it was a little cold and windy, we did had fun! Check out the video below to see a snippet of our time at the beach:
