The Movers Have Come and Gone

Today's the day! The movers have arrived to Lexington with all of our belongings. Let the unpacking begin!

Flower Sprinkler Fun

It's HOT down here in Lexington! To give the kids a way to cool off as well as something to do while Daddy and I work on the new house, we bought them a flower sprinkler to run through. Praise the Lord, it's a hit! Check out the video below:

Arirang Korean BBQ

We may have just found the best restaurant in all of Lexington!

Arirang Korean BBQ

When we walked into Arirang Korean BBQ, I didn't think I would like it. First, it's basically a hole in the wall. It doesn't look like much either in or out. Second, it had to be at least 85 degrees in the restaurant when we walked in, and it only got hotter from there. And third, it was clearly short-staffed, and our food took quite awhile to come. However, with all of that stacked against it, when the food finally arrived at our table... WOW! I. Have. Never. Tasted. Anything. Better.

Munkin Graffiti

It's day two of painting, and we're lightening the walls up a bit.

Brian Painting the Walls

In every house that Brian has painted... this makes his fourth... he always adds some special graffiti for me to find. I hit the husband lottery with this guy!

Jump in the Pool

After painting all day, there's nothing better than a jump in the pool!

Let the Painting Begin

Now that we have the keys to our Lexington home, we're in a mad dash to get the entire house painted over the next few days.

Daddy Is Painting

We're saying goodbye to this scarlet red wall and bringing on the Kentucky blue!

We closed on our Kentucky home last night. We are official Lexingtonians now!

McConnell Springs

On this beautiful and HOT Monday afternoon, the kids and I checked out McConnell Springs, the birthplace of Lexington. The story goes that in June 1775, William McConnell and his fellow frontier explorers camped at a natural spring in the wilderness of the Virginia territory known as Kentucky. Word came from nearby Fort Boonesboro that the first battle of the American Revolution had been fought in Lexington, Massachusetts. In honor of the battle, the group named their future settlement Lexington.

Porter at McConnell Springs

In the picture below, Stella is pointing to the area aptly named the Blue Hole. This is the first of two major springs at McConnell Springs. The waters originate from a wide area of southwestern Lexington, flowing underground through crevices in the limestone bedrock. The Blue Hole is actually a 15-foot sink hole. The sinkhole was formed when the discharge of water from a crack in the bedrock had enough force to blow away the overlaying soil and sediment. The resulting cone-shaped basin remains filled by the springs below.

Also, along our walk at McConnell Springs, we came across this gorgeous bur oak which is estimated to be more than 250 years old. This tree has stood witness to Lexington's birth as well as it's dynamic development over these last two centuries.

And then there's Porter, who's well on his way to mastering the jump-and-spin:

Kentucky Children's Garden

It's a lovely day here in Lexington, Kentucky! We decided to check out Kentucky Children's Garden found at the University of Kentucky's Arboretum.

Although this picture is pretty much the same as the one above, Stella is actually giving Porter a kiss on the shoulder. This just melts my cold, little heart!

The Kentucky Children's Garden was okay, but it doesn't hold a candle to the children's garden found at Cleveland Botanical Garden... just saying.

Costco Frugalness

Earlier this week, Brian and I decided to buy a Costco membership in the name of prudence and frugality (and there's one right down the road from our new house). Today, I went to Costco ready to make careful, cost-effective purchases. I bought milk, strawberries, and... a pink tutu for Stella. So yes, wise decisions were definitely made!

Found the Pool

We found our apartment's pool today! Poor kids... I don't think they are going to want to leave temporary housing in a few weeks.

Oh, these two. They go through a container of strawberries every single day.

Temporarily Unpacked

Whew! We have finished unpacking everything we brought down for temporary housing (which was a good bit). We will be in our temporary abode of the next 30 days, and then we'll pack up again and move to our Lexington house. Check out our current place below:
