Harvested Pumpkins & Gourds

Our pumpkins are now harvested! We plucked a combination of 110 pumpkins and gourds from our 2 backyard pumpkin patches (I ended up using the area where our evergreens are located to grow some extras).

Here's what I gathered from pumpkin patch #2. I just think these little guys are so cute!

Cleanest Sidewalks in Orrville

Brian powerwashed our sidewalks today. This might not seem post-worthy to most, but to our quirky, little family, this is news!

Tunnel Climber

Stella and I enjoyed our morning at a playground in Massillon. She liked climbing through the tunnels while I chased her around with the camera. It's the special relationship we have!

Enjoying the Sunshine

Here's our babies enjoying the sunshine at Secrest Arboretum. It was a great day for a walk!

Good Day to Visit Secrest

We had a great afternoon at one of our favorite places in all of Wayne County, Secrest Arboretum.

Stella Climbing Rocks

Secrest is part of Ohio State University's Agricultural Research and Development Center, and in our opinion, it's the crown jewel of Wayne County.

Porter Going down the Slide

Brian and I love looking at all the various trees and plants, but the kids are really into the enormous slide!

Secrest Arboretum Slide

We all enjoyed a lovely walk through the park.

Secrest Arboretum Walk

Anytime my kids (as well as my husband) see a big rock, they have to climb it. It's just an automatic reaction with them all!

Sitting on a Rock with Daddy

It was HOT though at the park, so after all of our walking, we went for frozen yogurt. It was a great day!

Pleased with Kindergarten

It's the second day of school and Porter seems quite pleased with kindergarten. He likes his classroom, his teacher, and his classmates (and, of course, he's a big fan of recess). Today, he jumped out of the car at drop-off, gave me a quick wave, and then ran into the school as happy as could be. The kid never looked back.

Second Day of Kindergarten for Porter

Stella, on the other hand, is not so thrilled with this new arrangement. She cries her little heart out when Porter enters the school doors, and it takes the entire ride home for her to recover. Although it's evident that she misses her brother while he's not at home, it does seem that she is enjoying her new one-on-one time with Mommy. I know I am definitely enjoying my time with her!

Porter's First School Drop-Off

Here's Porter at his very first school drop-off. I really didn't think I would cry, but watching him walk into the school all by himself was a little more than my heart could bear. The tears started to flow!

Is Kindergarten Ready for Porter?

Maybe that's the real question...

Daddy's Here Too

Brian went into work late this morning so he could be part of Porter's first day of school festivities.

First Day of Kindergarten

Porter was so HAPPY to see Daddy when we he woke up this morning. It was a real treat for him!

Crazy Amount of Photos

I just couldn't help myself... I got Porter up an extra half hour early so we could take LOTS of first day of school pictures! He was a good sport about it though. God bless this kid!

Check out the video below:

The Wilderness Center

We're only 1 day away from Porter going off to Kindergarten! After his haircut at Hy Street Barber Shop in Orrville, we headed to The Wilderness Center in Wilmot for our final summer vacation outing for the year.

The Wilderness Center

This is our first visit to The Wilderness Center, but it definitely won't be our last. Although we were there for almost 2 hours, we weren't able to see everything it has to offer both inside and out.

Stella at The Wilderness Center

We first started exploring the inside of The Wilderness Center. One of our favorite exhibits was the fully-functioning beehive.

Then we decided to head outside for even more adventure. Porter found this dead snake that absolutely made his day:

We also found the mother of all bat houses. Hopefully, this won't give Daddy any ideas!

While taking a rest on a bench, the kids shared a sweet, sibling hug... that quickly turned into a wrestling match (as they generally do).

Sibling Hug... Turned Wrestling Match

We walked the 1.25 mile Pond Trail and saw lots of beautiful sites including the pier at Wilderness Lake, a large two-story observation tower that we just had to climb, and an observation shelter overlooking a frog-friendly pond. Of course, nothing really beats the trees in my opinion:

Walking Trail at The Wilderness Center

Stella was quite the trooper. She walked the entire trail up until the very end when she got a bug in her eye and needed held by her mommy. Of course, the end of the trail was a steep, uphill climb. The kid has impeccable timing!

Kindergarten Open House

Tonight, we had Porter's Kindergarten Open House where we had the opportunity to see meet his new teacher, Miss Bishop, as well as to tour Orrville's BEAUTIFUL elementary school. We were impressed!

Outside Orrville Elementary

In the cafeteria, the Orrville elementary staff had an assembly for all of the kindergarten students and parents to attend. Here's our little scholar listening carefully to all that is being said:

I can't believe my first born love will be off to kindergarten in less than a week! All prayers for Porter and his momma would be most appreciated!

Baja West Coast Kitchen

One of my top ten FAVORITE restaurants has moved to Orrville!

Baja West Coast Kitchen in Orrville

The closest Baja West Coast Kitchen used to be over 30 minutes away in North Canton, and I would go as often as I could (which was about every 3-4 months). Now, Orrville's Baja is less than 2 miles from home. My YEAR has been made!

Schoepfle Garden

On our way home from Vermilion, we stopped by Schoepfle Garden in Birmingham. In a word: INCREDIBLE! We had no idea how great this little side trip was going to be!

The Beautiful Schoepfle Garden

Schoepfle Garden is a 70-acre wonderland of trees and botanicals that is meticulously maintained and nurtured by the Lorain County Metro Parks. If you ever get a chance to visit, you will not be disappointed!

Swimming in the Lake

With my two kids, any visit to a body of water must include a swimming excursion! Stella needed a few minutes to warm up to the lake, but Porter jumped in as soon as he got there.

You can barely see him, but that little blob of red is one happy, swimmer boy!

Where's Porter?

Lake Life

I was fortunate enough to spend the first 13 years of my life on Portage Lakes with East Reservoir in my backyard. We would have boat traffic at all hours of the day and night, and for whatever reason, I always found the sights, the sounds, and even the smells of life on a lake to be quite glorious. Today as we strolled along Vermilion's Main Street Beach, I was reminded of the many good times I experienced while growing up on a lake. It was a blessing to my soul!

Fortunate Photo Op

While walking with the family on Main Street in Vermilion, I happened across this fortunate photo opportunity!

Welcome to Vermilion

In celebration of my recent retirement from teaching, we're spending the next two days in Vermilion to be close to the waters of Lake Erie. We're so excited!

Making S'mores

The boys decided to have a backyard campout this weekend. Daddy put up the tent and made the perfect fire to roast marshmallows and make s'mores.

Daddy Roasting Marshmallows

Daddy and I LOVE to eat s'mores. However, the kids prefer to eat the chocolate and marshmallows right out of the package. Hey, whatever works!

Basket Case

Check out the new basket Hubby bought me from the Smucker's Company Store & Cafe:

I've had my eye on this little cutie for over a year now. Thanks, BriBear!

August 4, 2015

Although new pumpkins are gourds are still popping up each day, we've gotten quite a collection over the last 2 weeks.

Momma's Pumpkins & Gourds

I'll be honest, I just LOVE these little guys! I check on them all at least twice a day... they have become a passion (or maybe more like an obsession)!

Kindergarten School Supplies

ALL of Porter's school supplies have now been bought. I can't believe we're only 14 days away from his first day of kindergarten!

Mini-Zipline Fun

Today, we had a fun afternoon at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. Here we are exploring the desert garden found in the glasshouse:

Seeing all of the butterflies in the rainforest garden was a real hit for the kids.

Brian and I always love walking through the outdoor gardens. However, at this time in our children's lives, enjoying the beauty of God's vegetation is really not their thing. There were much more enthralled by the mini-zipline they could ride.

Porter on the Zipline

Look at how well Stella is holding on to this zipline! She's growing up so fast.
