Secrest Arboretum

This afternoon, I took the kids to Secrest Arboretum in Wooster, Ohio. Although we've driven through this site a few times before, this was our first time walking and exploring the grounds.

Cutest. Baby. Ever.

Secrest is an absolutely beautiful place and fast becoming one of our favorites to visit when we want to get outside and close to nature. I highly recommend!

First Dentist Appointment Scheduled

Today, I scheduled Porter for his very first visit with a dentist. He will be getting his teeth super clean and shiny next Tuesday at our new dental office in Orrville, Lincoln Way Dental Group. Here's praying that it will be a positive and peaceful experience for him... and the dentist... and Mommy too!

Hottie on a Bike

While on his lunch break, Daddy got his bike back from the shop. Now that the weather is finally starting to cooperate, he will begin riding to and from work. Living a mile from the Smucker's campus certainly has its perks!

Looking Good, BriBear!

My only hope is that Brian will continue to roll up his pant legs while riding his bike. He is the hottest nerd I know!

Porter's New Bike

After work today, Daddy was quick to get home so he could get his little boy to the bike shop and pick out some new wheels. Porter is now sporting a beautiful Trek Jet bike which he... and apparently also his Daddy... thoroughly enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

This year, our Aunt Carol and Uncle Joe from North Carolina sent us a beautiful handmade card in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

Green Baby Booty

In the card, they included this famous Irish blessing that I just adore:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Lucky Red-Headed Porter

Thanks, Aunt Carol and Uncle Joe! As always, we appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

In continued celebration of Porter's 4th birthday that took place on Thursday, we took him up to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. His grandparents were also in attendance to make the day even more special.

Porter's Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Porter loved seeing the dinosaur bones! The T-Rex and Triceratops were particular favorites. Also, after visiting the planetarium, he had lots of questions about planets and stars. I think a new interest may be starting!

Porter Turning Four

Today, our little, red-headed wonder turned four years old! Daddy took the day off work in celebration of this special day. The boys went out together for breakfast, while Stella and I picked up a cake and balloons.

Daddy & Porter Claws

It was a good day! Porter loved having extra time with Daddy, and he was thrilled to see the John Deere tractor on top of his cake.

Porter with Balloons & Cake

Although today was fun, we're really looking forward to this coming Saturday when we take Porter up to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to see an exhibit he is sure to enjoy... dinosaurs! We can hardly wait!

Happy 4th Birthday, Porter!

Dear Porta Pot,

What an adventurous year! You have been into everything questioning how and why things are the way they are. You usually follow up a question with what your thoughts are on the matter and how you think things should operate. You are a builder and lover of the earth. More than anything you want to be outdoors and playing in the dirt, with rocks, and sticks.

You are going to be a force to reckon with throughout your life. You are not only strong physically but mentally as well. You are passionate about the things you believe in and know no bounds to what you are willing to do to accomplish what you set your mind to. You are also very smart. Saying you are clever doesn't even come close to describing how intricately your mind thinks through processes and situations.

As a parent, I can openly speak of how difficult you can be at times. It isn’t at all that you are a bad child or that you intentionally try to do wrong things. It is simply that you are curious and want to know how things work; and that occasionally means that you have to break things to find out they don’t go back together. You have a tender heart and know, after the fact, that you may have not made the best decision. Never let that part of you slip away.

It has been amazing watching you turn into a little boy. The next year will hold many new adventures for you including school. I know you will be both the smartest kid in class and also the biggest pain for your teacher. The smartest kids always challenge and question why. There is nothing wrong with that and don’t let anyone tell you there is. Part of being exceptional is being willing to challenge the way things are done for the sake of improvement, but also willing to admit, through wisdom, when you are not correct.

I love you dearly and will always support you. I look forward to sharing in your adventures and trying to keep up with you as you blaze a trail forward that others will only dream of keeping up with.

New Bike in Porter's Future

While at Silver Creek Metro Park, we quickly realized that it was time for Porter to have a new bike. Every time he pedals the one he's got, his knees hit the handle bars. Poor, kid... but it was pretty entertaining to watch!

Went to Town

This morning, Stella went to town with her basket of toys and spread them all over the house. She had the best time ever, but wasn't too helpful in the clean-up process. Oh, Stella!

Grandma Pat

Porter is my little artist in the making! He's been drawing a lot these days and seems to really enjoy the process. The picture below is one he made this week. He told me it is of him and his Grandma Pat (who is my mom and who also passed away long before he was born), and the section in blue is his heart.

Spring Is Nearly Sprung

What a great day! The weather here in Orrville was warm enough to allow our little clan to walk to the grocery store without heavy winter coats, gloves, or even boots. We're all so happy that spring is nearly sprung!

Ohio Weather

It's a beautiful day in Ohio at 46 degrees! All the snow has just about melt, and the sun is shining bright. Too bad a winter storm watch is in effect tonight with a possible 6 inches on the way. That's Ohio for you!
