Family Picnic Silliness

Over the weekend, my parents held a family picnic at their home.  The video below shows Porter having a good time on Daddy's shoulders while we were there.  In the background, there is a special guest appearance made by Porter's Great Grandma Gauder who is truly the kindest, most good-hearted woman you'll ever meet.  Check it out:

Grandpa's Childhood Wagon

Porter spent today with his Grandpa Gauder.

They played with Grandpa's childhood wagon.

Porter had a blast!

Something tells me they will be playing with this wagon quite a bit over the summer!

Happy Mother's Day

Dear Momma Bear Munkin,

The intent of this post is to celebrate your first full year of motherhood and to wish you many more years of happiness to come. First, I would like to take a look back at the past two years to help put things in better perspective. Back in July 2009, we were blessed to find out that you were pregnant, and that we would be bringing our little bundle of exuberant joy, Porter, into the world. This brought a lot of uncertainty into our lives and created quite a bit of stress. We were both in limbo with our careers and we just took the plunge into home ownership. The addition of Porter was just the icing on our emotional cakes. We both believed that God would provide, and He did not miss a beat. Like all the times before, God took care of us in our time of need. We’ve been blessed with great families, great careers, and most importantly a great little baby boy!

Things seem to be rolling along smoothly now. There are still things that are up in the air, but I think we both have a better confidence than we did just a couple of years ago. Maybe it is maturity. Either way, we both trust God and know that things will work out.

Now, more about the mothering part. You have filled the role of “Mom” perfectly. You are always kind and compassionate with Porter. You are the one he runs to when he is tired, hungry, or hurt. He knows you will comfort and protect him. You have also been a great teacher. You continue to help him learn new things even when you get most frustrated. It is amazing how you never give up. I know you were overwhelmingly scared about what kind of mom you would be, and if you would ever bond with our new son. The day he was born all those fears quickly sank away. He melted our hearts and immediately knew you were his Mommy. The two of you have grown closer and closer over time. I can honestly say that there could not be a better Mom for Porter. That is part of God’s greatness. He has given you a son that you relate to, care for, and can teach better than any other child on earth. He is a blessing for you equally as much as you are for him. I have never doubted your ability or questioned your sincerity when it comes to our family. You have not wavered and you keep going strong.

I don’t know whether you will get a post like this every year (it depends on how much you nag me about it), however, I do know that I will always think you are an incredible mom and deserve being told so. I love you and thank you for being my wife and baby momma. You are truly multi-talented!!!!!

Love,
Bri-Berry

Word World

We try very hard to limit the amount of time Porter watches the television.  In fact, as of now, he's only allowed to watch Word World, a great educational program found on PBS Kids.  At 10:30 each weekday morning, Porter is allowed to watch all 30 minutes of this program, and he absolutely loves it!  Check out the video below to see Porter's reaction when his favorite show begins:
