One Year

Today marks the one year anniversary of this blog.

As I look back over all of the entries I have made over the course of this year, the first one really sums it all up: CHANGE.

Back in May 2009, I can remember having the gut feeling that change was coming. I didn't know what that change would look like, but I knew something was in the works. However, if you know me, you know that I do not like change, and I do anything and everything possible to avoid it. Needless to say, this was quite a year for me.

It's hard to sum up this year in just a few sentences. A lot of it has been incredible. A house was bought, a baby was discovered, and a promotion was had. However, with all the good that we have received, there have been that many challenges that have followed. Not all of these challenges were necessarily bad, but with them came change... and sometimes rather painful change.

I have heard change described at pruning a tree. In order for a tree to really flourish and look its best, it must be pruned. All the dead, diseased, and problematic branches must be cut off in order to do this. I think its the same with people. In order to for us to really become our best, we must allow God to cut off all the ugly stuff growing in our lives. Even though this is really good for us in the long run, it still hurts when it is happening.

Although this year has provided many bumps along the way, it has been such an amazing journey. It will be interesting to see what the next 365 days hold. I'm not sure if this next year will be quite as eventful as the last, but I am sure the life lessons will keep on coming, and with them, God's pruning sheers will be out and ready!

So Cute!

I just love this picture! Watching Porter in his bouncy swing brings me such enjoyment, probably more than it brings him!

Loving the Outdoors

Now that the weather has been nice, we've been taking Porter on little walks around the neighborhood in his stroller. It's been such a treat!

I have always loved to go on walks. I've been dragging Brian on walks for years, and now I can take Bubby (that's Porter's nickname) too! I love being with my guys especially when we're enjoying the sounds of the birds chirping, the smells of flowers and freshly cut grass, and feel of the sunshine on our skin. It's just amazing!

Porter and His Papa

It's no secret that neither Brian nor I are what you would call "baby people." Although we both love teaching and working with children, we tend to politely back away from any child under the age of 1. Some people love being around babies, and some people run for the door when they see a carrier coming. Brian and I have usually fallen into the latter category.

Then enters Porter, our precious, baby boy, and suddenly, we can see why so many "ooh" and "ahh" over these little bundles of joy. I'm not sure when the exact moment occurred when I bonded with Porter. Maybe it was before birth, maybe at the hospital, or maybe even in the weeks that followed, but sometime in this crazy whirlwind that's been my life for the last several months, I fell in love, and I fell hard.

Although I know Brian loved Porter before he was even born, the day that the child smiled at him, it was all over. Brian was forever changed. The bond between father and son was set, and nothing is going to break it. It has been an amazing experience to watch love grow. Everyday, with every coo, every smile and laugh, every scream and cry, every diaper to be changed and every spit-up to be wiped away, our love for Porter reaches new heights and depths. Parenthood... what an experience!

Country Bumpkin

On Sunday, we decided to turn our little man into a country bumpkin! We put mulch bags in our garden wagon, and plopped the poor kid down!

If only we could have a piece a straw in his mouth, this would be a perfect shot!

Hello, May!

It is a beautiful day in Ohio! Praise the Lord! The sun and warmth feel so good! It's amazing what a little sun can do to lift your spirit.

I am very excited about this weekend! Brian and I will be going to our favorite restaurant tonight in celebration of our birthdays since they both fall in the month of May. Grandma Bev is going to watch the little squirt while we are away. Thank you, Grandma Bev, for giving us a date night!
