Stella the Preschooler

This morning, Daddy and I accompanied Stella on a tour of her new preschool classroom. She will be officially starting preschool next week. Oh, I don't think I'm ready for this... at all!

Sunday Afternoon Walk

On this lovely (and quite toasty) Sunday afternoon, we enjoyed a family walk at McConnell Springs Park right here in Lexington.

Taking a Rest

The passion flowers (one of my all-time favorites) were in bloom, and the butterflies were out in force! It was a great day to visit.

Aviation Museum of Kentucky

For this weekend's adventure, we checked out the Aviation Museum of Kentucky located right here in Lexington. It's a very cool place with lots to see!

Porter's New Kite

Porter has been wanting a kite for a few weeks now. So to celebrate his start of first grade, we found him a lovely (and inexpensive) kite on Amazon to try out.

Porter's New Kite

He hasn't had much practice or guidance with it yet, but it seems like he's getting the hang of it all on his own.

Paddle Boat Fun

This afternoon, we headed just a couple of miles down the road to Jacobson Park to take a paddle boat ride around the lake. We saw a fish jump out of the water, a blue heron, and a drone (of course, the kids were the most fascinated by the drone).

Newport Aquarium

Today, we headed to the northern border of Kentucky to visit the Newport Aquarium.

Porter & Stella at the Newport Aquarium

What a wonderful sight for the eyes!

Porter at the Newport Aquarium

I had been to the Newport Aquarium several years back on a field trip with my elementary students. Ever since it's been a goal of mine to take my kids to this incredible place.

Daddy & Stella at the Newport Aquarium

One of the most memorable moments of our visit to the aquarium actually occurred when we were leaving. We got to exit by walking over the shark tank on a netted bridge. You could look down and see the sharks and rays underneath you! It was awesome!

Porter's First Day of First Grade

I can hardly believe it... Porter is officially a first grader!

Porter Is a First Grader

Walking to School

For Porter's first day of first grade, we thought we would make the day memorable and all walk him to school.

Leaving the House for School

Let me tell you, this walk was memorable. It's a little over a mile away, and by the time we got there, we were all sweat buckets!

Walking Porter to School

On the flip side, it was a lovely walk. It will be great to try again in the fall, but for now, we're driving!

First Day of School Breakfast for Champs

Today is Porter's very first day of first grade! Daddy made his family-favorite oatmeal to start Porter's day out right. Yum!

Cove Springs Park

This morning, the kids and I traveled to Frankfort, Kentucky for our first visit to Cove Springs Park.

Waterfall at Cove Springs Park

Cove Springs Park is a nature preserve consisting of approximately 240 acres of wetlands, streams, springs, waterfalls, and forested ravines.

It is a beautiful park and fun too!

Stella's Range of Facial Expressions

I asked Stella to give me a grumpy face. Clearly, she delivered:

Big Bone Lick State Park

This afternoon, the kids and I traveled up to Union, Kentucky to visit Big Bone Lick State Park (which very possibly is the best name ever given to a state park).

Big Bone Lick State Historic Site

One of the cool things about this park is that it has bison!

Bison at Big Bone Lick

Getting to see the bison herd up close was a real treat. They even had several calves that were quite adorable. Stella loved the "baby bison" the most!

Quick Hello

Before heading out to Big Bone Lick State Park, we stopped by Daddy's office for a quick hello.

Visiting Daddy at Work

Although we don't live quite as close to Daddy's work as we once did in Orrville (4 minutes total, even with every red light in town), we can usually get to the Jif plant in less than 15 minutes. That's pretty good for Lexington!

Too Stinkin' Cute

Oh, this child! She is just too stinkin' cute... and rascally. At least the two balance each other out!

Dinosaurs Alive!

Since both of our kids love dinosaurs, we thought it would be fun to check out Kings Island's Dinosaurs Alive animatronic park.

Dinosaurs Alive with Daddy, Stella & Porter

Stella wasn't quite sure about this part of the park. She stayed mostly in the wagon for "safety" reasons. Daddy on the other hand (no pun intended) threw caution to the wind!

Stella at Kings Island

While Daddy and Porter went on the bigger kid rides, Stella and I looked for every tiny-tike thrill inside the park.

Stella's Pink Jeep

Stella had a blast! She wasn't the least bit scared of any of the rides, and she didn't mind riding solo.

Porter's First Roller Coaster Ride

For this trip to Kings Island, Porter got to experience his very first roller coaster on the Woodstock Express. Here's the epic photo from the ride:

Although Porter looks absolutely terrified in this photo, when the ride was over, the first thing out of his mouth was, "Let's do that again!"

First Trip to Kings Island

On this beautiful Tuesday, we headed up to Mason, Ohio for our very first visit (for all four of us) to Kings Island Amusement Park. Our tickets were provided by the J.M. Smucker Company for their annual Jif plant family picnic. It was a great day!
